Summary Comments – Round-up Ready Wheat
Bill Wilson, Ag Economist, NDSU, Fargo, ND
There are growing pressures for and against the further development and adoption of round-up ready wheats. These pressures are described briefly followed by a detailed interpretation of the status of approvals and tolerances. These are important because ultimately these are what would govern international trade and marketing. Then the presentation describes the alternative systems of Identity Preservation and testing and segregation and likely what would be adopted to facilitate marketing of Round-up Ready Wheat. Results are presented showing how these strategies differ. Finally, the discussion turns to the likely mechanisms and marketing practices that would emerge to facilitate marketing of Round-up Ready Wheat.
